What would your perfect planner look like? My perfect artist planner

What would your perfect planner be like?

Being in business as an artist can be hard at times. Often, people would try to be kind by saying:

“ Just paint, the work will come eventually.” If only that were true, I would be a millionaire by now. It’s not as easy as that though.

Just like any other business, there are lots of things you have to do to get your name out there.

How will people know I am an artist if I don’t tell them?

How will people know what I paint if I don’t show them?

How will I know what to do if I don’t plan ahead and create goals?

That’s were a great planner comes in useful. And, let me tell you, there are hundreds of the darn things out there, so choosing the right one just for you is a whole new ball game.

I sat down at my desk one afternoon and brainstormed ideas of what sort of pages I would have to have inside a planner designed just for me.

Here is what I came up with:

1/ Goal setting worksheets

Every business owner needs to record their goals, be it weekly, monthly or yearly. So a few of these inside my planner would be a definite yes.

2/ Action plans

Once you have made some clear and manageable goals you need to work out how you are going to achieve them. That’s were action plans come in. They would have to be straightforward and easy to use with step by step instructions to be able to reach those goals.

3/ To do lists

Now I am the kind of girl who writes lists for everything, so having “to do list” pages would be an absolute must. I could write them out the night before so I would know what I needed to do the following day. Then it would be just a case of ticking them off one by one as I complete them.

4/ Calendar spreads

Every planner should have a calendar of some sort for all those important dates

5/ Monthly review

At the end of every month I like to evaluate what I have accomplished as well as what didn’t go according to plan. This enables me to ask myself questions like: what could I have done differently for this to work? Then I can implement the new ideas into next months action plan.

6/ Art Journaling

An important feature to have in my perfectly designed planner would be lots of space to doodle, draw and paint on to decorate and/or get ideas down in image form.

7/ Motivational quotes

Who doesn’t love motivational quotes? I would want these peppered amongst the pages of my planner to pick me up when I need it and to spur me on.

8/ And all the other bits

As well as all of the above I would have a budget tracker to keep track of my spending. I would have an income and expenditure page so I could keep track of my accounting. Last of all I would have a contacts page and a customer page.

All of these pages would be the bare minimal that I would have in my planner but as I continue to use it I can add pages to it that become important to me.

Have I missed any pages out?

Is there a page that you would have to have in your planner if it was designed just for you?

Please let me know in the comments.
